The Canadian Children's Theatre Co. is excited and proud to announce the addition of Spotlight: a series of performing arts programs for children, youth and adults with special needs or intellectual disabilities. Our weekly classes will feature drama games, music, singing and dancing and will be geared towards multiple levels of skills and modalities, while maintaining a fluid structure and flexible outcomes to suit each participant and the group as a whole.
The performing arts are a powerful means of expression where individuals can share their thoughts, ideas, feelings and inner emotions and also improve their physical, social, emotional and cognitive skills. Most importantly, individuals are encouraged to explore their creativity and imagination in a safe and welcoming environment to boost their self-confidence, self-worth and self-esteem.

Our theatre games and activities will be used to teach emotion recognition, non-verbal behaviours and gestures, listening skills, eye contact, conversation skills and strategies to handle social situations. The music & movement portion of our classes will provide sensory & mental stimulation, enhance learning, increase mobility, strength & body awareness and promote relaxation - reducing anxiety and improving mood & frame of mind.

These 9 week programs will culminate in a collective showcase for family and friends during the final class. They are offered on Friday evenings for Children in Grades 1 through 6, for Youth in Grades 7 through 12, and for Adults.
