We are excited to announce that we will be resuming our in-person recreational performing arts programming for the Fall 2020 season. We are committed to maintaining a safe and clean environment for our students, their families and the community we serve.

SUMMER CAMP UPDATE - June 9th 2020

We are thrilled to announce that our summer camps will go ahead as scheduled! Today the Provincial Government released the following:

“Based on the advice of the Chief Medical Officer of Health and with strict health and safety protocols in place, the government is now enabling summer day camp programs across the province to reopen this summer. Strict health and safety guidelines were developed by the Ministry of Health in partnership with public health, the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development, and municipalities...”

In order to comply with the health and safety guidelines, we will be welcoming only a small group of campers each week. Be sure to reserve your child's spot today by completing the registration form on our REGISTER NOW page. Please note that payment is not required at this time. Once we have confirmed with you that there is space available in the camp of your choice, and a date has been given for York Region to move into Phase 2, you will be contacted to arrange for payment.

If you have previously registered or reserved your child's spot, we will contact you in the coming days to outline any program changes relating to the new guidelines, confirm your enrollment and arrange for payment (if not previously made).

SUMMER CAMP UPDATE - June 1st 2020

On May 19th, the provincial government released the following:

“Assuming trends in key public health indicators continue to improve, summer day camps, both indoor and outdoor, may be permitted in July and August of this year with strict health and safety guidelines to be developed in partnership with local public health, the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development, and municipalities.”

The health and safety of our campers and their families is always our top priority. We continue to monitor the situation and will follow the advice and direction of public health officials to determine what additional health and safety measures can be put in place to protect campers and staff. In the meantime, the planning continues for our summer camp programs!

Our Kids Get Staged and Show Time for Teens programs will resume next week through Zoom. Emails will be sent out to all participants on Wednesday April 15th with all of the details.

Our Preschool Drop-in Program, Kids Fun Nights and Youth Fun Nights remain closed/cancelled until further notice.

We appreciate all of the emails, notes and messages of kindness and support from our students and families over the last few weeks. We miss you all very much. We look forward to connecting with you and seeing your faces again really soon!

UPDATE - March 16th 2020

Due to the growing concerns surrounding the COVID-19 Pandemic, and the escalating recommendations being made by all levels of government, we have made the difficult decision to close temporarily and suspend all programming until further notice. Please know that we have been taking every precaution to keep our participants and their families safe, but the situation is ever-changing and too uncertain for us to remain open.

Our March Break Camp has been cancelled and participants have been notified either in person or by email to arrange for refunds or credits.

Our Kids Get Staged and Show Time for Teens programs will be suspended until further notice. Participants will be notified by email in the coming days.

Due to the concerns about travel and mandatory isolation periods that many families are coming home to, we will be rescheduling our Winter Session Final Performances that were scheduled to run from March 24th to March 30th. Participants will be notified by email in the coming days as we monitor the situation and work to formulate an alternate performance schedule at a later date to include as many participants as possible.

Our Spring Session is scheduled to start on April 18th. We hope to maintain this schedule, but will let you know if the need arises to push back the start date.

We want to thank you for your kindness and understanding as we navigate through this difficult time. We will post updates here and through Facebook and Instagram as things unfold.

Wishing you and your loved ones good health. We look forward to creating and performing with you again soon.

LETTER REGARDING COVID-19 -- Dated March 13th 2020

To Our Valued Students and Families,

As we continue to monitor the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation, I want to share the actions we are taking at the Canadian Children’s Theatre Co. to maintain a safe and clean environment for our students, their families, and the communities we serve.

We are proactively monitoring the situation and following information provided by the York Region Health Department. At this time they have stated: “There is no evidence of community spread within York Region and the risk to York Region residents of acquiring the virus in the community remains low.” With that in mind, all of our programs will run as scheduled unless you hear otherwise from us. If a program, camp or event is cancelled, registered participants will be notified by email. We will also post such updates on our website, our Facebook page and through our Instagram account.

We are following the “Public Health Guidance for Schools (K-12) and Childcare Programs on COVID-19”, issued by the Public Health Agency of Canada.

In addition to our regular and rigorous daily cleaning practices, we are now disinfecting high-touch surfaces several times per day. We insist that all children and patrons wash their hands thoroughly upon arrival and we will be increasing the number of scheduled hand-washing times throughout our camp days. We will vigilantly enforce our “no-sharing” food policy and “hands-off” rule, and will continue to encourage coughing or sneezing into a bent elbow or tissue.

Please note that if we observe or suspect that your child, or any visitor to our facility is symptomatic, we reserve the right to send them home and/or deny participation. In accordance with the York Region Public Health Department, we ask that you follow this checklist when deciding to attend a program or event at the Canadian Children’s Theatre Co.:

Have you recently returned from international travel? Yes ___      No ___

Do you have a fever (over 38 degrees Celsius)? Yes ___      No ___

Do you have a new or worsening cough? Yes ___      No ___

Do you have new or worsening shortness of breath? Yes ___      No ___

If you checked yes to any of these questions, please stay at home.

We appreciate your support and understanding as we strive to maintain our program commitments and to provide a calm and creative, safe and healthy environment for your children.

Kind Regards,

Jennifer Martin

Artistic Director
